Tura, April 28: The ICFAI University Meghalaya, Tura Campus, conducted a Career Counselling Program at St. Dominic Savio Higher Secondary School, Garobadha on Monday which aimed at empowering students who recently appeared for the HSLC 2025 Board examinations to make informed career choices.
The session was led by Abijit Sarkar, Assistant Professor in the Department of English and Communication Studies, who highlighted the growing significance of Humanities and Social Sciences in today’s evolving world.
Sarkar stressed that these fields cultivate critical thinking, creativity, communication skills, ethical reasoning and leadership — competencies highly valued across sectors such as education, civil services, media, technology, and social development. He also discussed how the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 encourages multidisciplinary learning, opening new avenues for students to pursue their passions across streams.
The program continued with Sudam Chetry, Assistant Professor of IT, who outlined the expanding career opportunities in Information Technology, especially in areas such as Artificial Intelligence, coding, and design. He urged students to prepare for the demands of the rapidly advancing digital landscape.
Chompaboti Hajong, Assistant Professor in the Department of Management, enlightened the students about career prospects in Management, Commerce, and Tourism. She emphasized the importance of soft skills, business analytics, and practical experiences through internships. Ms. Hajong also highlighted how graduates in these fields can explore diverse opportunities in sectors like cruises, airlines, and the hospitality industry, alongside eligibility for government jobs and competitive examinations. She engaged students with a fun-based interactive game designed to help them discover their interests and career inclinations.
The program concluded with an address by Muktadul Hussain, Senior Administrative Officer, who introduced the students to the various undergraduate and postgraduate programs offered by The ICFAI University Meghalaya. He encouraged the students to make informed academic and career decisions by exploring opportunities across disciplines such as Management, IT, Humanities and Tourism.
