Tura, April 23: World Book Day and Copyright Day 2024, themed “Read Your Way” was observed by ICFAI University Meghalaya, 150 students, academicians, and staff of the institute took part in the event.
The program began with an introductory speech by Babulal Prasad, Library Assistant, addressing the gathering he emphasized the significance of World Book Day and sensitized the participants about the Copyright Day in the digital era. Dr. VSB Sangma, Advisor & Campus In-Charge of ICFAI University Meghalaya, in her address, stressed that World Book Day serves as a call to promote literacy, instil a love for reading, and ensure equitable access to books for all.
Distinguished speakers shared insights on various facets of literature, digital resources, sustainable reading practices, and community engagement. Dr. Angom Jeevan Singh, Assistant Librarian, delivered a presentation titled “From Page to Screen: Navigating Digital Resources & E-Books in Library,” showcasing the vast array of online resources available to readers and stressing the importance of academic integrity.
Rehny A Sangma, Librarian of Don Bosco College, Tura, advocated for the promotion of sustainable reading habits and community engagement through “Book Swaps and Sharing,” urged the participants to actively engage in book swaps to foster a culture of reading among youth.
Dr. Amal Kumar Mondal, Professional Assistant at Nehu Tura, shed light on “Literature and Education,” highlighting the evolving role of library professionals in facilitating learning and development through books in the digital age.
The event concluded with a renewed commitment to building a world where every individual could experience the transformative power of reading.
