Shillong, Feb 8: The North Eastern Council (NEC) has allocated about Rs. 11 crores for development and beautification of Shillong’s largest traditional market, Iewduh (Barabazar).
Speaking to reporters, NEC Secretary K. Moses Challai said, “We (NEC) are going to revamp our good, poor and old Barabazar. We are going to revamp the whole market”.
He said that the sanction amount has been approved but the funds are yet to be released. “We are studying the DPR which is around Rs. 10-11 cr”, he added. He further said that the facelift will commence within 2-3 months.
Challai said that Iewduh requires complete revamp, including the pipeline, footpaths and other essential facilities. “I used to visit Barabazar. There is a need to improve the place in terms of cleanliness, and the purpose is to beautify the area,” he stressed.
