The Hima Mylliem has warned of taking “stern action” against any individual who stays overnight at Iewduh market, including likely closure of shops where such violations are reported.
The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) on Friday demanded the immediate eviction of illegal settlers residing within the jurisdiction of the Shillong Cantonment Board.
According to delayed reports, the incident occurred near Saw Aiom Restaurant. Four or five non-tribals allegedly created a scene after dining at the restaurant and refused to pay their bills
The four projects are Development of Commercial Building at Polo Junction, Mechanised Multi-Level Car Parking at Vivekananda Road, Near Additional Secretariat and Polo Commercial Complex, Beautification of Iewduh Market and Improvement and Beautification of Five Lakes in the State and the Ward’s Lake Promenade.
The North Eastern Council (NEC) has allocated about Rs. 11 crores for development and beautification of Shillong’s largest traditional market, Iewduh (Barabazar).
The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) conducted an extensive checking of Trading and Labour Licences of shops operated by non-tribals at Ïewduh (Bara Bazar) in Shillong on Wednesday.
Following inputs received of extortion in commercial centers at Police Bazar and Iewduh, the Special Cell of East Khasi Hills Police laid a trap and arrested 4 persons from Police Bazar who were caught serving extortion notes to one of the shops on Thursday.
The CEM also said that the committee has also decided to conduct an inspection in Iewduh for installation of a check gate to monitor the entry and exit of people and to prevent theft and anti-social elements especially during night time.
