Shillong, July 20: Supreme Court on Thursday directed Union and State government to take steps against the videos of women being stripped and paraded in violence hit-Manipur.
CJI DY Chandrachud said, “We will give a little time for government to take action otherwise we will step in.”
The CJI has also taken a suo Motu cognizance of the video showing Kuki women paraded naked & then gang-raped.
Chandrachud said, “The incident is simply unacceptable. Using women as an instrument in an area of communal strife. Grossest of constitutional abuse. We are deeply disturbed by the videos which have emerged.”
Supreme Court said that it will take up the matter on July 28.

Ahead of Parliament’s monsoon session, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday opened up on the viral video of two women being paraded naked in Manipur. PM said that the incident was shameful for any civilized society and assured that the guilty will not be spared.

Arrest in the viral video case
Manipur Chief Minister N.Biren Singh Thursday said that the state police has arrested a person, who was allegedly part of the mob that paraded and assaulted three Kuki women on May 4. The video of the women walking naked surfaced on Wednesday after almost 2.5 months after the incident.
Ethnic violence has rocked the state for the last two months and claimed over 150 lives and left over 50,000 injured.
