Imphal, Mar 6: A significant cache of illegally possessed arms, ammunition and explosive materials was voluntarily surrendered on Thursday in Manipur.

In response to an appeal by the Governor of Manipur and a similar appeal made by the Commandant of the 6th India Reserve Battalion (IRB) which saw the voluntarily surrendered of arms and ammunition.

As part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal arms possession and enhance security in the region, the surrendered items were handed over to Dr. S. Ibomcha Singh, Commandant of the 6th IRB, and his team.

The recovered items included weapons and explosives self-Loading Rifle (SLR) with magazine, Lethod Bomb,Chinese Hand Grenade (without detonator). Two magazines for the 303 Light Machine Gun (LMG) 22 rounds of 303 live ammunition 10 rounds of 7.62 x 51 mm live ammunition 17 rounds of 9mm live ammunition 5 rounds of 5.52 mm live ammunition, various other live rounds, and empty cases of different calibers. 10 Wave Belt Aerial Antennas and 4 detonator fuses.

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order while encouraging individuals in possession of illegal weapons to surrender them voluntarily. The surrender is seen as a positive step toward restoring peace and stability in the region.

Security forces are expected to continue their efforts in persuading citizens to hand over illegal arms, with further measures likely to be taken to strengthen law enforcement across Manipur.

After President’s rule was imposed in Manipur, the Governor of the state appealed the people to surrendered the looted arms and ammunitions which were looted after the ethnic-conflict in the state.
