Guwahati, June 14: The Guwahati Regional MET Centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted severe weather conditions amid ongoing monsoon rains in Assam-Meghalaya and the adjoining states. The department has also issued a red alert for anticipated heavy downpours until June 17 in Meghalaya.
According to an official statement, light to moderate rain will occur in most places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura for the next four days.
However, the situation is likely to intensify in Meghalaya and Assam, with the IMD predicting heavy to extremely heavy rains at isolated places during this period. It has also cautioned about the possibility of thunderstorms and lightning at isolated places across the northeastern states.
Authorities in the affected states are advised to take necessary precautions and remain alert to deal with any potential flood-like situations or landslides during this period.
The ongoing monsoon rains have already caused significant disruptions in the region, with reports of flooding and landslides in several areas. IMD has cautioned citizens to stay safe and take necessary precautions during this period.
