Guwahati, July 5: The flood situation in Assam is showing no sign of improvement, with parts of Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh also affected by continuous downpours, leading to loss of lives in floods, landslides, and other related causes.
The situation is expected to deteriorate further as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded a red alert for Heavy to Extremely Heavy rains in Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh on July 5, while an orange alert will continue till July 10.
IMD has issued the red-alert for the East Khasi Hills and South West Khasi Hills districts for July 5. It issued an Orange alert for East Jaintia Hills, West Jaintia Hills, Eastern West Khasi Hills, and West Khasi Hills. However, Orange alert will continue till July 9 for East Khasi Hills and South West Khasi Hills districts.
For Assam, Heavy (7-11 cm in 24 Hrs) to Very Heavy rain (12-20 cm in 24 hrs), along with isolated extremely heavy rain (21 cm or more in 24 hrs), is very likely to occur over Kokrajhar, Chirang & Baksa districts on July 5.
However, the district-wise weather forecast was not available for Arunachal Pradesh.
Meanwhile, the flood condition seems stable in Assam, with no further rise in the water level of the Brahmaputra river in the Kamrup, Goalpara, and Dhubri districts of lower Assam as per the latest data provided by the Central Water Commission.
