The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has sounded a red alert for Assam and Meghalaya, forecasting extremely heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and squalls over the next two days, June 18 and 19. An orange alert has been issued for June 20.
Continuous heavy rainfall over the past three days has triggered multiple landslides across various parts of Sikkim, disrupting daily life and road connectivity. Meanwhile, India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for the state, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next two days.
The flood situation in Assam is showing no sign of improvement, with parts of Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh also affected by continuous downpours, leading to loss of lives in floods, landslides, and other related causes.
