Guwahati, June 17: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has sounded a red alert for Assam and Meghalaya, forecasting extremely heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and squalls over the next two days, June 18 and 19. An orange alert has been issued for June 20.
The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) has warned that several districts may experience severe waterlogging, traffic disruptions, and heightened risk of landslides, especially in vulnerable hilly areas. Authorities are on high alert, and emergency response teams have been activated across the state.
Given the recent spate of floods and landslides triggered by earlier downpours, ASDMA has urged residents—particularly those in low-lying and landslide-prone zones—to remain vigilant and take all necessary precautions. People are advised to stock essential supplies such as medicines and candles, avoid unnecessary travel, and move to safer locations or relief camps if living in high-risk zones.
Citizens are encouraged to follow official advisories and stay updated through weather bulletins. For emergencies, ASDMA and local DDMA offices can be reached at helpline numbers 0361-1070, 1079, 112, and 1077.
