Imphal, Feb 7: Conflict hit Manipur, got some breather with Eikhoigi Imphal International Film Festival (EIIFF) being organised after a gap of three years. 54 films, including 38 foreign, will be screened during the film fest.
The Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS) and the Manipur State Film and Television Institute organised the film festival, which is designed to position the State as a strategic hub for independent filmmaking.
Manipur recently was in news for the ongoing conflict and crisis. The film fest brings back ray of hope in the state after the ethnic conflict. Manipur Chief Secretary Prashant Kumar Singh said, “this is not just a film festival, this is also a celebration of creativity where so many people come together to exchange their ideas and let the creativity flow freely, all of us will promote Manipuri cinema in a bigger way,” and the stories will bind the people of the state.
“We are so proud and thrilled to be a part of the international festival. We hope Manipur can host many more such international film festival in the coming years, and the state gets a platform for the new talents. We are happy to see the film makers from around the world gathered here for the three-day film festival in Imphal,” said Bala Hijam, Indian film actress.
“Finally, we could organize the second edition of EIIFF 2025. This is happening when Manipur is going through unrest. I think this is the best platform to provide the healing touch and change the atmosphere of mistrust and I think stories are the best way to provide the healing touch,” through these stories we can unite our people because EIIFF is all about inclusiveness said one of the organizers of EIIFF 2025.
“Five non-fiction films will be pitched by professionals during the festival. The emerging talents get a chance to present their stories and get an opportunity for co-production and funding opportunities and another five fiction stories will also be pitched in the pitching session,” he further added.
More than 50 guests, including filmmakers and film producers from the metropolises will attend the festival. “Many foreign filmmakers and film critics intended to come but we could not invite them as we did not get the political clearance in time,” the organizer said.
One of the guests attended said, “This is not just a film festival, this is also a celebration of creativity where so many peoples come together to exchange their ideas and let the creativity flow freely and all of us will decide to promote Manipuri cinema in a bigger way,”.
