Agartala, Mar 22: INDIA bloc candidate Ratan Das who also a CPIM member, submitted his nomination papers for the assembly by-elections in Ramnagar constituency, Tripura on Friday.
Before submitting his nomination, supporters of CPIM and Congress organized a massive joint rally. The colorful procession, adorned with flags and banners of the eight parties constituting the INDIA Bloc, including CPIM and Congress, passed through the main streets of Agartala.
Speaking to the media, Ratan Das criticized the BJP government for its anti-people activities and failure to fulfill pre-election promises.
Das accused the government of merely indulging in “tall talks with big hoardings and posters” without taking substantial action on the ground. He emphasized the BJP government’s failure to work for the development of the people.
The INDIA bloc candidate highlighted the alleged “fascistic terror” prevailing in Tripura under the BJP, where democracy is stifled, and opposition voices are suppressed.
Senior CPIM leaders, including Jitendra Chowdhury and former MP Sankar Prasad Datta, along with Congress Working Committee member Sudip Roy Barman, participated in the rally.
The by-election for the Ramnagar Assembly constituency is scheduled to be held on April 19, coinciding with the first phase of Lok Sabha elections.
As the campaign for the by-election intensifies, Das, a former councilor and MLA from the area, aims to regain the constituency seat.
