Shillong, June 2: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Thurday inaugrated the European Union (EU)-India Global Gateway conference with Minister of State for External Affairs, Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, in the presence of Koen Doens, DG, Directorate General for International Partnerships, European Commission, Ugo Astuto, Ambassador of the EU to India and Bhutan and Santosh Jha, Ambassador of India to the EU.
The conference was inaugrated to enhance dialogue and identify priority connectivity needs in the region.
The aim of this conference is to boost smart, green and secure connectivity investments in the Northeastern states.
Taking to Twitter, CM Conrad Sangma said, “So glad to participate in the #EUIndia Global Gateway Conference in Shillong.”
“The North East of India is blessed to be geographically positioned, neighboring many South East Asian countries and therefore, it can be a strategic gateway to establish connections of mutual benefit for India and the EU.”
“Our rich cultural diversity & heritage, abundant natural resources, sustainable practices & vast borders with other countries present great opportunities that the EU & India can leverage through their partnership.”

CM further in his tweet said that he is hopeful that this wonderful exchange will fructify into tangible outcomes in strengthening India and EU relations.
Senior government officials of the Northeastern states, Bhutan, Nepal and Bangladesh and stakeholders from the private sector will be participating in the conference (from June 1, 2023, till June 2, 2023).
