India foils Pakistani strike attempts, destroys Air Defence System in Lahore

Must read

Shillong, May 8: The Indian Army successfully thwarted Pakistan’s attempt to target military installations across 15 Indian cities, and has issued a stern warning that any further attacks on Indian military assets will be met with an appropriate response. In a calibrated retaliatory move, India also destroyed a Pakistani Air Defence system in Lahore on Thursday morning.

The attempted strikes by Pakistan came in response to Indian airstrikes conducted early Wednesday morning on terror camps located in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and inside Pakistan. During the night of May 7–8, Pakistan launched a coordinated attack using drones and missiles against Indian military bases in Northern and Western India.

The targeted locations included Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bathinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai, and Bhuj. These attacks were effectively neutralised by India’s Integrated Counter-Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) Grid and Air Defence infrastructure. Authorities are currently recovering debris from multiple sites, which confirm Pakistan’s role in the attempted strike.

India’s Ministry of Defence, in an official statement, described its earlier operation—codenamed Operation Sindoor—as a precise and restrained response to the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 tourists. The statement clarified that Indian strikes deliberately avoided Pakistani military installations, focusing solely on terror infrastructure.

However, in light of Pakistan’s escalation, the Indian Armed Forces expanded their response on Thursday by targeting Pakistani Air Defence radars and related systems at several locations, including the confirmed neutralisation of a defence system in Lahore.

Simultaneously, Pakistan intensified its unprovoked shelling along the Line of Control (LoC), deploying mortars and heavy artillery in multiple sectors including Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, Poonch, Mendhar, and Rajouri. These attacks have tragically claimed 16 civilian lives, including three women and five children.

India responded decisively to silence the Pakistani fire and prevent further casualties.

Reiterating its stance, the Ministry of Defence emphasized that India remains committed to preventing escalation, but will not hesitate to respond when provoked.
