This escalation follows India’s launch of “Operation Sindoor” in the wee hours of Wednesday morning, a series of precision airstrikes targeting nine locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir. The operation was a direct response to the April 22 Pahalgam massacre, where 26 Hindu tourists – 25 Indians and 1 Nepali – were killed in a terrorist attack attributed to Pakistan-based groups.

India stated that the strikes targeted terrorist infrastructure linked to groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed, reiterating that no Pakistani military facilities were hit. The Indian strikes have reportedly killed over 80 terrorists in the 9 locations that it targeted.
In retaliation, Pakistan condemned the strikes as an “act of war” and has resorted to heavy shelling along the Line of Control, resulting in 15 casualties.
Meanwhile, the international community has expressed deep concern over the escalating conflict. The United Nations, United States, United Kingdom, and other nations have called for immediate de-escalation and dialogue between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.
Meanwhile, residents in the affected regions of Jammu and Kashmir are grappling with the aftermath of the shelling, facing loss of life, injuries, and destruction of property. Relief efforts are underway, but the situation remains tense as both nations maintain heightened military readiness.
