The satellite, also referred to as solar observatory, has already deployed its solar panels and started generating power to take itself on the 125-day journey towards the Sun-Earth L1 point, from which it will study the sun. It will cover a distance of 1.5 million km.

The mission aims to study solar winds, which can cause disturbance on earth commonly seen as auroras.

If Aditya L1 successfully reaches Lagrange point L1, or the Sun-Earth L1 point, in space, ISRO will become only the third space agency to put a observatory there along with NASA and the European Space Agency.

Congratulating ISRO on the successful launch, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted on X (formerly twitter): After the success of Chandrayaan-3, India continues its space journey. Congratulations to our scientists and engineers at @isro for the successful launch of India’s first Solar Mission, Aditya -L1. Our tireless scientific efforts will continue in order to develop better understanding of the Universe for the welfare of entire humanity.”
