Itanagar, Oct 19: Budget carrier IndiGo on Tuesday successfully test landed its aircraft at the newly-constructed Donyi Polo Airport, which is located near Itanagar, the capital of Arunachal Pradesh, marking a step forward to the airport being made operational. Officials have informed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to inaugurate the newest airport of the country probably on October 28 or after.

Arunachal Pradesh now has two operational airports – one at Pasighat and another at Tezu – but with very limited flights and there was no airport near state capital Itanagar and people had to travel for 6 to 10 hours to take flight from either Dibrugarh or Guwahati in Assam so this brand new green field airport will be a great boost to connectivity and tourism as well, officials added.

Under Ude Desh ka Aam Nagarik (UDAN) scheme, Prime Minister Modi had launched first flight on April 27, 2017. The scheme aims to connect small and medium cities with big cities through air service, now Pasighat and Tezu in Arunachal have Udan scheme flights.
