Ampati, Mar 8: International Women’s Day, themed “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”, was celebrated at Rangsakona Community Hall on Tuesday.
Intending to accelerate gender parity, sensitization on women’s rights and issues were the core topics of discussion at the event which was organised by Social Welfare Department, South West Garo Hills.
Celebrating the cultural, political, social and economic achievements and contributions of women towards the growth and development of society and communities, the women of all age groups present on the occasion were felicitated by AVD Shira, Additional Deputy Commissioner of South West Garo Hills, who attended the event as the Chief Guest. She also shared about her past professional experiences as Additional District Magistrate, Judiciary, wherein she encountered cases of gender inequality and atrocities against women within the society.
