Imphal, Sept 12: The Indigenous Tribal Advocacy Committee(ITAC) on Thursday held a public rally in Jiribam demanding merger of tribal villages in Jiribam with Pherzawl district.
The ITAC was formed by the people of Jiribam and Pherzawl district to lead them during Manipur crisis.
Large number of people holding placards and banners held a rally demanding merger of Jiribam with Pherzawl district.
“Jiribam has been declared as hills area by president of India in his declaration in 1948. Upto 2017, we have paid hill house tax and enjoyed the hills rights in Jiribam but the Manipur government under Biren-Singh government have cut off the rights of the tribal. We demand that our rights should be restore,” said a protester.
He said, “We demand merger of tribal village in Jiribam to Pherzawl. We are having problem in documentation because we have to go to DC office for documentation. Earlier, it was easy for us.”
“Indigenous Tribal Advocacy Committee held a public rally in support of various demand. We appeal the government to fullfill our demand,” said another protester.
