Jowai, Nov 8: Muster roll workers of East and West Jaintia Hills under the umbrella of All Jaintia Muster Rolls Workers & Labour Union (AJMRW&LU) on Monday took part in an emergency meeting at the Yungwalieh, Chiliangraij, Jowai.

Lakhon Syngkon, Branch Manager, Jowai and S Lapasam, Inspector Labour Department, West Jaiñtia Hills among others were present at the event.As per reports, the meeting was divided into two sessions where the Union demanded implementation of the Meghalaya Regular Casual Worker (MRCWS) Scheme, 1996, the scheme under the Meghalaya Building and other construction welfare board which includes education scholarship, death benefits, insurance amongst others.

The Union also decided to increase the retirement age from 58 to 65 years and the payment of pension followed by the demand for benefit to workers under the Jowai Polytechnic, the Education Department, and benefit of Midday Meal Scheme amongst others.

The Union has set December 10, 2021 as the deadline for meeting its demands.
