Shillong, Oct 22: Information & Public Relations Minister James K. Sangma on Thursday inaugurated the new office building of the Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) located at Lower Lachumiere in Shillong.
The new building will cater to different wings of the IPR department – press, publicity, publication, advertisement and Meghalaya Integrated Information System (MIIS) including office of the Regional Passport Seva Kendra and the office of the Shillong Press Club (SPC).
Inaugurating the new building, Sangma reiterated on the importance of IPR department in creating publicity and awareness of different schemes and programmes of the government. He lauded the officers of the department for tirelessly working to disseminate information to the public through its different wings.
He also underscored the importance of digital and social media communication which has evolved stated that IPR department has also been able to incorporate the new changes in communication by day to day relaying information through its social media handles.
He also reiterated the importance of communication medium and expressed the vision of the department to leverage communication channels with adoption of new media techniques to be at par with the times.
