Jangrapara rape and murder accused of child remains on the run

TURA, Aug 5: The prime accused in the chilling rape and murder of a 12 year old girl in the Garo Hills continues to be on the run despite efforts of police to try and trace him out.

The accused identified as Chanda M Sangma hails from Mikdikgre area of Baghmara, South Garo Hills, but had settled in Jangrapara Bikonggre village of West Garo Hills.

The 12 year old victim had gone with her parents to attend a funeral in the village but was sent back for a minor errand in the house when the attack took place.

Her parents returned hours later to find her in a pool of blood with her throat slit.

The accused, who was also the neighbour of the child, fled after committing the crime leaving behind his wife to face the ordeal. A dagger used in the murder is said to have been recovered from his home.
