Shillong, Jan 10: The Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong is expected to host its first-ever international football match this March.
According to unconfirmed sources, the match will feature India against neighboring Bangladesh on March 25. This game will mark India’s opening match in the AFC Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers.
While there has been no official confirmation from the All India Football Federation (AIFF), sources have stated that “AIFF is keen on having an international game in Shillong.”
With a seating capacity of 17,000, the JN Stadium in Shillong is considered an ideal venue for the Indian football team to kick off their Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers.
What is confirmed, however, is that the Indian Super League (ISL) matches will be held at the stadium. Northeast United FC playing as Home Team will host Mumbai FC on February 7, Bengaluru FC on February 21, and East Bengal on March 8.
