Shillong, April 16: The Jaintia National Council (JNC) Western Zone has demanded the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) to immediate remove the headman belonging to Karbi community at Lakaroi village alleging that he was illegally appointed by the Assam government.
A delegation of the JNC led by its western zone president Hamehi Bamon met the JHADC chief Thombor Shiwat and requested him to take immediate action against the Assam government’s interference within the council’s jurisdiction.
Lakaroi is under the jurisdiction of the Dorbar Pyllun Lapangap in the West Jaintia Hills District.

Bamon alleged that a significant number of residents in Lakaroi belonging to the Karbi tribe are reportedly transferring their documents to Assam without the JHADC’s consent.
“We have urged the CEM to take appropriate action by sending representatives to the village and to promptly remove the headman, as this village is not part of Assam, and they have no authority to interfere in our land,” he said.
“In response, the CEM assured the organization that immediate action would be taken against anyone violating JHADC regulations,” Bamon said. He also warned that if the JHADC fails to take action on the matter, the JNC will not remain passive.
