Shillong, July 31: In a bid to enhance scientific education, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) in Mawphlang, East Khasi Hills, recently hosted specialized academic support classes focused on biology and different career opportunities including discussions on entrepreneurial skills for the students of Class XII.
These sessions were led by Dr. Dinesh Bhatia, an Associate Professor from NEHU’s Biomedical Engineering Department, under the Vigyan Jyoti Programme Phase-V.
The Vigyan Jyoti Programme is funded by the Department of Science and Technology’s (DST) Kiran Division that aims to inspire young minds, especially female students, to pursue careers in science and technology. It provides students in the remote and rural areas with exposure to advanced scientific concepts and hands-on learning experiences.
North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) is appointed as the Knowledge Partner by DST for this programme.
Dr Bhatia’s engaging teaching methods and deep subject knowledge had a significant impact on the students of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya. His classes covered essential biology topics, different career opportunities and encouraged critical thinking among the participants.
The sessions were conducted on July 28 and 29, 2024 at the school premises.
Rajesh Kumar Chaudhary, PGT (Physics) at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, served as the programme coordinator, facilitating the smooth conduct of these enriching sessions.
Principal Dr. Neelam Sharma of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya expressed gratitude for the initiative, highlighting its role in enriching the academic environment and nurturing scientific interest among students.
Such collaborations between academic institutions and government programmes are crucial for holistic development and equitable access to quality education in the remote and rural parts of India.
The success of these classes underscores the effectiveness of the Vigyan Jyoti Programme in fostering a strong educational foundation. As the programme expands its reach, it promises to empower more young women across the nation to excel in science and technology.
