Guwahati, June 15: A team from CBI arrived in Guwahati to probe the mysterious death of Assam Police Sub-Inspector Junmoni Rabha. The investigation will be led by IPS officer of CBI Lovely Katiyar. She is a 2008 batch IPS officer.
Also, a team from the CBI has left for Jakhalabandha a day after the central government handed the inquiry into the death of Morikolong Sub-Inspector (SI) Junmoni Rabha to the agency on Wednesday.
According to reports, the CBI team will be investigating the two cars involved in the collision that killed SI Junmoni Rabha and then will head to the Crime Investigation Department’s (CID) headquarters.
On Wednesday, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, “The Government of India has assigned the investigation of the case concerning the unfortunate death of Police Sub-Inspector Junmoni Rabha to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).”
The order reads, “An order from the Ministry of Personnel, public grievances and Pensions said “In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 5 read with section 6 of the Delhi Special Police Establishment Act, 1946 (25 of 1946), the Central Government with the consent of the State Government of Assam, issued vide Notification No. ECF No. 302621/20 dated 20.05.2023, Home & Political Department, Govt. of Assam, hereby extends the powers and jurisdiction of the members of the Delhi Special Police Establishment to the whole State of Assam for investigation of four cases”.

This comes a day after Assam DGP G.P. Singh visited the CBI headquarters in Delhi.
