TISF protest rally turns violent in Tripura after police fires tear gas & water cannons

Agartala, June 15: In a shocking incident, a peaceful protest organised by the Indigenous Students Federation (TISF), student wing of TIPRA Motha took an unfortunate turn after the protest turned into a violent clash.

According to the protestors, the police allegedly used tear gas and water cannons without prior warning.

The demonstration, which took place on Wednesday, was organized by indigenous student organizations advocating for the adoption of the Roman script for the Kokborak language.

The rally was organised Agartala, and the agitators blocked the airport road for approximately three hours.

Reports also said that small fraction of the agitators resorted to throwing bricks and bottles, attempting to continue the blockade even after the allocated time had ended.

A four-member delegation, representing the agitators, had already met with the Governor to submit a memorandum as per their demands.

Also,during the clash, six protesters sustained injuries and were rushed to GB Hospital, where they received medical attention.

TIPRA Motha leaders including Opposition Leader Animesh Debbarma also visited the injured students.

While talking to reporters, Debbarma condemning the incident and urged Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha to initiate an immediate inquiry to identify those responsible for the violent clash.
