Shillong, March 21: Commissioner & Secretary in-charge Home (Political) Cyril Diengdoh on Friday informed that the government is planning to bring all 22 students, who are affected by the recent food poisoning incident at Mandya, Karnataka, back to Meghalaya.
Speaking to reporters, Diengdoh said, “The plan is to bring them back to the state of Meghalaya.”
“However, these students are of different classes – some are of class V and some of class VIII, and they have to take certain exams otherwise they will lose that particular year. So, the DC of Mandya is trying to arrange how these students can take their annaul exams and that is what they have expressed also and definitely the district administration has reached out to the parents and after all legal procedures are followed by the district administration through process of law, we will bring them back,” he added.

Asked, Diengdoh said, “As on today, I am in touch with the deputy commissioner of Mandya district. The update is that the children are still in the hospital and they are being taken care of by the hospital authorities. The child welfare committee of the district is also in touch with the hospital so that anything that is required for the children is taken of.”
He informed that the deputy commissioners in Meghalaya have been directed to immediately release Rs 3 lakh each to the next of kin of the two students, who passed away due to the food poisoning incident.
Diengdoh, who recently came back from Karnataka, also informed that district administration and the police have already lodged an FIR and six persons have been arrested that include the persons running the school and the illegal hostel, restaurant owner and the cook.
“Therefore, the inquiry will follow as per procedure of law. FIR is already registered and the law will take its own course,” he added.
