KHADC Elections | NPP State president urges Mawsynram voters to restore faith in Alvin Sawkmie

Shillong, Feb 18: National People’s Party (NPP) state president and deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong has urged the people of Mawsynram to re-elect sitting MDC Alvin Khyriem Sawkmie for all round development of the constituency.

He was addressing the election campaigns held at Lawbah and Syntein on Monday.

“I urge the people of the five villages to re-elect the sitting MDC instead of getting fooled by other candidates since we are committed to continue to bring development to the constituency,” Tynsong said while addressing the meeting at Syntein village.

Stating that the ADC elections are very important, he said this is because the party seeks to further strengthen the rich culture and tradition of the indigenous people.

Tynsong also expressed confidence that the people will vote for NPP and said, “I also assure you that we will provide a mobile tower besides the community hall, bridge etc. if you re-elect Sawkmie from the constituency. We understand that it is a big disadvantage for the people of Syntein in the absence of a mobile tower. I also assure that I will immediately come for inspection to ensure further development of the area.”

In his speech, Sawkmie assured to take steps to address the problems faced by the farmers from the region.

“We have come up with a Market Act to address the farmers’ issue, which the previous executive committees have failed to do. Under the leadership of the NPP, we were able to do away with the practice of deduction of weight of agriculture produce at Iewduh market. The objective of the Act is to protect the rights of the farmers. I also assure you to take up the problem of broomstick farmers. We are here for you so legislate various laws for you,” he said.

He also emphasized the need for the KHADC to come up with more effective laws for the protection of indigenous community.

Former MLA Himalaya Shangpliang informed that construction of the road from Weiloi to Phrangymbroi will start very soon and the government has also proposed to sanction another road from Phrangymbroi to Dangar.
