Shillong, Feb 3: Amanda Pakyntein, wife of sitting legislator from Mawkynrew and former cabinet minister Banteidor Lyngdoh, on Monday filed her nomination papers from Mawkynrew on a National People’s Party (NPP) ticket for the upcoming elections to the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and expressed confidence to win the seat.

Speaking to media persons, Pakyntein said, “I am confident to win the election and I assure that I will follow the footsteps of my husband in bringing development to the constituency and work towards strengthening the Sixth Schedule to the Constitution of India, which is the ultimate protection to the indigenous community besides preserving the rich customs and traditions.”

Emphasizing the need to strengthen the matrilineal system, she said that there is also a need to bring clean governance in the KHADC. “We need to ensure transparency in the job recruitment and also protection of the environment,” she added.

She also claimed that her husband had done so much for the constituency by bringing different developments for the interest and welfare of the people.

Asked, Pakyntein said, “I send my best wishes to the sitting MDC. I should have won the 2019 elections but we all know we lost because of the combined forces (between the sitting MDC and Remington Pyngrope). However, this time I am totally confident that we will win this election.”

Lyngdoh expressed confidence that his wife will win the election with the love and support of the people of the constituency.
