Shillong, Feb 24: The stage is all set for today’s counting of votes for the elections to the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC).
The fate of 272 candidates, 158 of them including 12 women are in the fray from 29 constituencies of KHADC and 114 candidates including 7 women from 29 constituencies of JHADC – will be known when Counting will start at 8 am at the different centres in the Khasi and Jaintia Hills regions.
“Elaborate arrangements have been made for counting of votes,” Commissioner & Secretary in-charge DCA Cyril Diengdoh said.
The District Council Affairs (DCA) department has listed three counting centres for JHADC polls.
For the three consituencies – War East, War Central and War West – under Amlarem Civil Sub Division, counting will be held at the office of the SDO of Amlarem, for sixteen constituencies – Amwi-Khliehtyrshi, Mukhla-Ummulong, Moodymmai-Nongkhroh, Nartiang-Wahiajer, Moodop-Umladang, Mynso-Nongjngi, Mynsngat-Khanduli, Shilliang-Myntang, Barato-Mukroh, Saphai-Sahsniang, Mowkaiaw, Raliang, Shangpung, Nangbah-Mihmyntdu, Jowai North and Jowai South – it will be at the office of the Deputy Commissioner, West Jaintia Hills and for the ten constitutencies – Muthlong-Sohkymphor, Tuber-Wapungshnong, Musniang-Rangad, Rymbai-Khliehriat, Sutnga-Nongkhlieh, Sutnga-Narwan, Sutnga-Nongkhlieh, Sumer, Saipung-Nongkhlieh, Narpuh and Bataw-Lakadong – it will be at office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills.
The DCA has listed seven counting centres for the KHADC election.
For the five constituencies of Ri-Bhoi district, the counting will be held at the NSCA Indoor Stadium in Nongpoh.
For the 13 constituencies of Sohryngkham, Mawkynrew, Nongkrem, Mawsynram, Mylliem, Laban-Mawprem, Nongthymmai, Laitumkhrah-Malki, Mawkhar-Pynthorumkhrah, Jaiaw, Mawlai, Mawphlang-Diengiei and Nongspung-Sohiong, counting will be held at the Inter State Bus Terminus, Mawiong.
For Lyngkyrdem-Laitkroh and Nongskhen constituencies counting will be held at the office of Sub-Divisional Officer, Pynursla.
For Sohra and Shella constituencies, counting will be held at the office of the Sub-Divisional Officer of Sohra.
For Mairang-Nongkhlaw and Pariong-Mawthadraishan in Eastern West Khasi Hills, counting will be held at the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Mairang.
For the two constituencies in South West Khasi Hills – Mawkyrwat and Langrin – counting will be held in thee DC’s Office, Mawkyrwat and in the three constituencies of West Khasi Hills district – Nongstoin, Rambrai-Jyrngam and Mawshynrut – the counting will be held in the DC’s office in Nongstoin.
Leaders of almost all political parties – NPP, UDP, Congress, VPP, HSPDP, KHNAM, BJP – in the fray have expressed their confidence to be able to form the new executive committees in both the ADCs.
The two ADCs has a total of 13 lakh voters of which 85.58 percent casted their vote in JHADC and 76.77 percent in KHADC during the just elections held on February 21.
