Delhi, June 8: Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on Wednesday termed the clashes between the Meitei and Kuki communities, in Manipur as ‘unfortunate’.
While speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Kiren Rijiju said, “The violence in the state is unfortunate and took place because of inter-community differences.
Kiren Rijiju’s statement comes days after Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited violence-hit Manipur and urged Meitei and Kuki communities to maintain peace.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited violence-hit Manipur on his four day visit in the state.
29 automatic weapons recovered
Security forces on Wednesday recovered automatic weapons and warlike stores during a joint combing operation in sensitive areas both in the hills and valley sector of Manipur following the violence.
The operations were conducted across Manipur in both Valley & Hill areas under the cover of UAV & Quadcopters.

So far at least 98 people have lost their lives and more than 310 people were injured in ethnic violence in Manipur that broke out on May 3. Currently, a total of 37,450 people are sheltered in 272 relief camps in Manipur.
