Tura, Feb 25: Meghalaya Koch Students’ Union on Saturday observed the 514th Chilarai Divas at Peradanaga village in West Garo Hills.
Sukladhwaj Koch, popularly known as Chilarai is a legendary Koch warrior.
The body paid homage to the valiant leader.
Advisor of Koch Krorang Mathop (Literature Society) Upen Hari Koch graced the occasion as chief guest. He spoke at length on the legacy of Chilarai.
Known for his exceptional military acumen, Chilarai, the younger brother of Koch king Nara Narayan, was celebrated for his remarkable fighting prowess, likened to the sharp and agile movements of a kite (Chila).
British tourist Ralph Fitch in 1585 had hailed him as Suckel Counse, acknowledging Chilarai’s strategic brilliance in orchestrating troop manoeuvres.
Renowned as a commander-in-chief, Chilarai played a pivotal role in the expansion of his elder brother’s empire.
The event, organized with fervor and devotion by the Koch body was a fitting tribute to the enduring legacy of Chilarai.
