Williamnagar, Sept 17: The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), East Garo Hills organised a campaign on Nutri-garden and Tree plantation on Friday.
The Campaign sensitized the gathering on the need for more nutri-garden and self-ufficiency in order to fight against the most common anaemia that is highly prominent amongĀ Garo rural women resulting in 70% death cases.
The programme was graced by East Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Swabnil Tembe as the chief guest.
Other line Department officials from DAO, DHO and ICDS in like manner talked about the need for growing own food and having access to more nutrient rich fruits and vegetables.
To encourage the nutri-garden/kitchen garden in their own backyard, winter vegetable seed packets and fruit tree saplings were distributed to the farmers along with ICDSās fruit tree sapling contribution.
Also, to highlight about the declaration of 2023 as the International Year of Millets, the focus was given on the health benefits of millets and re-popularize millet
plantation, by providing new recipe of healthy millet-based food products namely vegetable millet fry and millet kheer with jaggery prepared by Local Kama SHG members trained by KVK itself.
Tree plantation of highly nutritious dragon fruit and Longan was done in and around the office premises. To emphasize on good nutrition and high value crop, dragon fruit saplings were also presented to the VIPs.
