Jowai, August 13: Following unrest in neighboring country Bangladesh, the FKJGP – Jaiñtia Hills Region, in collaboration with the Synjuk ki Waheh Chnong War Jaiñtia—a group of village headmen from the Amlarem Civil Subdivision—conducted a joint inspection of the international border on Wednesday.
Before the inspection, the groups met with the Officer In Charge of Dawki Police Station to request increased patrolling along the border and coordination with local village heads.
During the inspection, which covered the border from Riahjalong to Amdoh, it was discovered that Border Security Force (BSF) personnel were absent from multiple sentry posts. The lack of a fence in this stretch of the border also facilitates illegal entry by Bangladeshi nationals into India.
Synjuk Waheh Chnong President Twinson Rymbui and General Secretary Kampher Pohlong expressed concern over the absence of BSF personnel, particularly given the current law and order situation in Bangladesh. They urged the government and district administration to address the issue urgently, as the ease of illegal entry could disrupt peace and tranquility in the border villages.
Damien War, President of FKJGP – West Jaiñtia Hills, highlighted that the inspection revealed the border remains unfenced, making it vulnerable to illegal entry, especially in light of the ongoing political unrest in Bangladesh.
