Imphal, July 17: Disappointment for football fans of Manipur because the two top clubs of the state will not represent this year’s edition of Durand Cup.
Due to lack of funds and sponsors amid the ongoing unrest in the region has forced these clubs to miss out on the upcoming tournament which is set to kick off on August 3.
Last year, Manipur proudly co-hosted the tournament and two clubs viz NEROCA FC and TRAU FC had the opportunity to showcase their talents on the national stage.

The Durand Cup, one of the oldest football tournaments in the world, holds a special place in the hearts of Indian football fans. It provides a platform for teams from across the country to compete and showcase their skills.
NEROCA, based in Imphal, had a commendable performance in last year’s Durand Cup, reaching the quarterfinals before bowing out while it bagged the runners-up in the 2016 edition of the Cup.
Manipur, known as the “football powerhouse” of India, has a rich legacy in producing talented players, who have represented the country at various levels.
The absence of Manipur’s clubs from this year’s Durand Cup not only denies them a chance to compete against some of the best teams in India but also robs football enthusiasts of witnessing the skills and flair that these clubs bring to the game.
