Shillong, Sep 18: Former Chief Minister and current Adviser to the Government of Meghalaya, Dr. DD Lapang, stated on Wednesday that the law and order situation in the state has significantly improved compared to previous years.
“There isn’t as much of a law and order situation as we had in previous years, where there were numerous killings and tribal massacres. All these incidents have now disappeared,” said former CM Lapang in response to questions about the performance of the NPP-led MDA government regarding tackling the law and emphasised situation.
When asked about the ongoing border issue, Dr. DD Lapang emphasised that resolving this long-standing dispute requires understanding and commitment from both sides of the government. He added that both governments should put their hearts and souls into resolving this persistent border issue between the two states of Assam and Meghalaya.
However, when questioned about the overall performance of the MDA-II government led by Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, Dr. Lapang suggested that the incumbent government should focus on grassroots-level issues. He cited examples such as addressing agricultural backwardness in the state.
The former Chief Minister commended the NPP as a party that raises the issues of the entire North East region. He stated that, because of this party, the concerns of the North East have gained prominence in discussions. Even Union ministers are now working to develop rural areas and support the growth of these villages.
