Jowai, Dec 19: Bright colourful glittering lights, decorations and the melodious sound of music reverberated in Moolamylliang, with the village beginning its Christmas lights extravaganza for its sixth consecutive season from December 18.

The lights extravaganza has also further enhanced the Yuletide spirit that has already set in in the village in the East Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya ahead of Christmas.

While local MLA, Santa Mary Shylla, was the chief guest on the occasion, Shivansh Awasthi, Deputy Commissioner of East Jaintia Hills district was the guest of honour. Several other dignitaries were also present.

The Christmas lights initiative was started in 2019 to promote tourism. Over the past few years, Moolamylliang village has gained much recognition in terms of tourism and environmental conservation. It especially attracts a lot of tourists famous for its Christmas lights. This year, the famous lights will be displayed every evening from December 18 till January 3, next year.

The event will also showcase various decors prepared for visitors across all age groups. The Dorbar will also host a musical night on Christmas Eve on December 24, where the band, Magnificent Obsession from Jowai will perform. This will be followed by a Gospel concert on Christmas on December 25 from 6 pm. DJ Wanshan and Eladmitre Dkhar will be the guest artists performing in this concert.
