Shillong, April 13: The traditional heads of Mawshbuit near Happy Valley, Shillong, along with the local civil groups have demanded for the removal of the gate erected by the 58 Gorkha Training Center (GTC) asserting that it has disturbed the residents of Mawshbuit.

It may be mentioned that on Monday, the residents of Mawshbuit were stranded for nearly four hours as the GTC personnel prevented the residents from going to their village.

Richard Nongkhlaw who is the headman of Mawshbuit said, “We demand that the gate should be removed. They have been harassing us from time to time”.

He added that the GTC gate should be shifted somewhere else so that the village of Mawshbuit will be free from harassment.

Nongkhlaw said that the government should solve the matter. The treasurer of the village, Nickson Jonas Kharumnuid said that the Assam Regiment, Assam Rifles have fences on both sides of the road and he questioned as to why should not the GTC do the same.

Meanwhile, the general secretary of Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Richard Mawkhiew said the state office of the PWD, the local heads and the GTC authorities will conduct a joint spot inspection after two days.

“We want this issue to be permanently solved. After the joint inspection is done, we will decide on the next course of action”, he said.
