Lok Sabha Election : Meghalaya polls: Close to 32 percent votes cast by 11 am

Shillong, Apr 19: People in long queues have turned up across different polling stations in Meghalaya to cast their votes.

The turnout in the first four hours has been overwhelming. The contesting candidates from Shillong and Tura have cast their votes.

In Shillong constituency it was 32.70, while in Tura it was 29.86 percent at 11 am.

TMC candidate for Tura Zenith Sangma and INC candidate Saleng Sangma is likely to vote around 12 noon in their respective polling station.

As per election officials, the voting has been peaceful across the State, with approximate turnout of 30 percent.

Speaking to Hub News, voters said that they choose to come out early as they anticipated temperature rise in the afternoon.

In plain belt area of Garo Hills, large queues are being seen from early morning. Many turnout at the polling station as early as 5:30 at to cast their votes.

In 2019 Lok Sabha election, the overall poll percentage was 71.43. However, in urban areas the turnout was approximately 58-65 percent in most towns including State capital Shillong.
