Tura, Sept 29: A rhesus macaque monkey that had been terrorizing pedestrians in pockets of the Tura market area and was involved in attacks on atleast two persons in recent weeks was aggressive apparently after having been separated from its pack, believe wildlife officials.
The monkey was tranquilized and captured on Friday morning after the department brought in an expert Dr D. Boro, from Wildlife Trust of India based in Manas National Park for tranquilizing the monkey.
The monkey is to be released into the forests, away from human habitation, informed West Garo Hills DFO Rupankar Marak.
On the number of people who have been attacked, the DFO clarified that no victim had come forward to register the attack on them.
‘It was only on social media which is not official,” informed the DFO.
Hunger and separation from its pack appears to have made it panicky.
Monkey becomes aggressive for many things like when it is teased or threatened,” revealed DFO Marak.
