Williamnagar, Oct 30: Loyola College, Williamnagar, came alive in a vibrant display of cultural heritage during its Annual Cultural Day, organized by the Cultural Committee and Student Council.
The college campus was transformed into a kaleidoscope of colors, as students and staff adorned themselves in traditional attire, celebrating their roots with pride.
The event was attended by Rudreshwar Ch. Momin, former Chairman of the High Power Committee of GHADC and adviser of the All India Garo Union, Rev. Fr. Melvil Pereira, Rector of Loyola College; Fr. Athiko Stephen, Principal, amongst others.
Speaking on the occasion, Rev. Fr. Melvil Pereira informed on the significance of such celebrations that allows students to connect to their roots.
He also enlightened the gathering on heroic deeds of Sonaram R. Sangma, a revered Garo freedom fighter who opposed British rule.
“We should always remember and honor the contributions of such leaders,” he said.
Addressing the gathering as chief guest, Rudreshwar Ch. Momin expressed his delight at seeing the students and staff proudly dressed in traditional attire.
He remarked on the importance of such events in fostering connections and understanding among different communities.
“Programs like these allow us to mingle, appreciate, and preserve our unique cultures,” he said.
The day’s festivities began with a Garo Folk Song Competition for Higher Secondary students, followed by Wangala Dance Competition for Degree students.
Students from different regions proudly displayed their heritage, bringing a sense of unity to the colorful spectacle.
