The event will conclude on February 28.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner of East Garo Hills, Diana G. Sangma, was the chief guest for the occasion. She was warmly received by the school’s students and the school band during the inaugural ceremony.

Diana G. Sangma kicked off the Sports Week by unfurling the school flag in the presence of Fr. Melvil Parera, the Rector of Loyola College; Sister Merabilis, the Principal of Ferrando Memorial School; Fr. Lawrence, the Parish Priest of Mater Dei Parish; and members of the managing committee.

Fr. Victor Dmello, the Principal of Loyola Secondary School, delivered the welcome speech, expressing his gratitude to the chief guest and other distinguished attendees for their presence at the vibrant event.

Speaking as the chief guest, Diana G. Sangma expressed her delight in being part of such a colorful occasion. She praised the discipline of the over 1,250 students and was impressed by their conduct. She commended the principal for ensuring that no student was left out of the activities, emphasizing the importance of making every student feel valued.

Regarding the role of sports in students’ lives, she stated that sports teach patience, leadership, self-confidence, and accountability.

She further highlighted the significance of extracurricular activities, pointing out that while many students excel academically and perform well in competitive exams, it is the skills developed through sports and other activities that truly set them apart. She stressed that students should aim to cultivate both strong academic results and practical skills.

Additionally, she acknowledged the government’s recognition of sports, noting that there are reserved quotas for students who excel in athletics.

The inaugural function was filled with vibrant performances, including dance acts by junior classes and a march-past by the different houses. The first day also featured various events, including running races and other games.
