Shillong, May 6: A moderate earthquake struck the East Garo Hills district of Meghalaya, on May 6, 2024. According to the National Centre for Seismology, the quake measured 3.4 on the Richter scale and occurred at 12:17 am (Asia/Kolkata GMT +5.30).
The epicenter was located at 25.71°N / 90.95°E, with a depth of 10 km in East Garo Hills which is 59 KM away from Bangladesh border and 78km ENE of Tura. The National Center for Seismology (NCS) reported that the shaking intensity was III (Weak) near the epicenter. No felt reports have been received so far.
Residents in the surrounding area likely felt the tremors, but no reports of damage or casualties have been reported.
