Mairang Teenager Sexual Assault Case: Body of accused found in vegetable farm

Shillong, Sept 26: A person, accused of being allegedly involved in the Mairang teenager’s sexual assault case, was found dead on Tuesday morning at Lawbyetun, Eastern West Khasi Hills District.

Lifeless body of the man, identified as Manwell Marwein, was first discovered by family members who suspect that he took his own life after being accused of sexually assaulting a teenage school student.

It may be mentioned that on September 19, a class 12 student from Mairang was brutally attacked by unknown miscreants while she was returning home from school. The female student’s face was hit with a rock, and the attackers also threatened to slit her throat.

Marwein’s lifeless body was discovered by family members in a vegetable farm near the village.

According to police reports, Marwein was allegedly involved in assaulting the 19-year-old girl on September 19, inflicting significant injuries to her face and had also threatened to stab her.

The victim is currently receiving treatment and is in recovery at Civil Hospital, Shillong.

Authorities noted that Marwein had been missing since September 19 and was strongly suspected of being involved in the attack on the teenager.

Police suspect that Marwein took his own life by hanging, as ropes were discovered near the area where his body was found.

The police have taken custody of Marwein’s body for post-mortem examination, and an ongoing investigation aims to establish the exact cause of his death.
