Guwahati, Dec 31: In a significant administrative overhaul within the Assam Police, Partha Sarathi Mahanta, an IPS officer of the 2007 batch, has been appointed as the new Commissioner of Police, Guwahati. Mahanta, who was previously serving as Inspector General of Police (Administration) in Guwahati, will retain the additional charge of Inspector General of Police (Special Task Force).
Former Commissioner of Police, Guwahati, Diganta Barah, IPS (RR-2004), has been transferred as Inspector General of Police (Special Branch), Kahilipara, Guwahati. He will also continue in his role as Director of the Lachit Barphukan Police Academy, Dergaon.
Lachit Baruah, IPS (SPS-2004), previously serving as Inspector General of Police (Special Branch), Kahilipara, will remain Managing Director of the Assam Police Housing Corporation Ltd., Rehabari, Guwahati.
In other key changes, Akhilesh Kumar Singh, IPS (RR-2003), has been reassigned from Inspector General of Police (T&AP) to Inspector General of Police (Law & Order), retaining his additional charge as Inspector General of Police (Communication).
Prasanta Kumar Bhuyan, IPS (SPS-2004), has been transferred from Inspector General of Police (Law & Order) to Inspector General of Police (Administration), filling an existing vacancy.
Meanwhile, Vivek Raj Singh, IPS (RR-2006), has been shifted from Inspector General of Police (MPC) to Inspector General of Police (T&AP). He will continue to hold the additional charges of Inspector General of Police (MPC) and Inspector General of Police (BTAD), Kokrajhar.
