Major salary hike for Tripura Ministers, MLAs

Must read

Agartala, Jan 15: The salaries of Ministers and Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) in Tripura are set to increase significantly, with hikes ranging from 81% to 92%. Additionally, the new legislation ensures that all MLAs, regardless of the duration of their tenure, will now be entitled to full retirement benefits, including pensions.

The Ninth Amendment Bill to the Salaries, Allowances, Pensions, and Other Benefits of Ministers, Speaker, Deputy Speaker, Leader of Opposition (LoP), Chief Whip, and MLAs was unanimously passed by the Tripura State Assembly on Wednesday, the concluding day of the winter session. The Bill faced no opposition from any political party.

According to the provisions of the Bill, an MLA will receive full retirement benefits even if they have served in the House for just one day. This marks a significant departure from the earlier policy, introduced in the last amendment of 2022, which required MLAs to serve a minimum of four-and-a-half years to qualify for such benefits.

The Chief Minister will now get ₹97,000 per month, the Deputy Chief Minister ₹96,000 per month, the Ministers, Speaker, LoP, and Chief Whip ₹95,000 per month, the Deputy Speaker ₹94,000 per month, MLAs ₹93,000 per month.
