GUWAHATI, Oct 15: In a major crackdown on narcotics, the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police seized 537.2 grams of heroin valued at approximately Rs. 4 crore from a truck at Jorabat, located on the Assam-Meghalaya border, early on Monday morning.
The drug bust led to the arrest of 46-year-old Rananjay Mandal, a drug trafficker who was also the truck’s driver. Mandal hails from Bamunkuchi village in Barpeta district’s Nagaon police station area, but currently resides in Bengali-Basti under Basistha police station in Guwahati.
A senior official of STF said the STF acted on specific intelligence, leading a team headed by Inspector Kopil Pathak to intercept the truck (registration number AS 01RC2336) at Jorabat, opposite the North East Cancer Hospital and Research Institute (NECHARI). Upon searching the vehicle, the police discovered 45 soap boxes filled with heroin weighing 537.2 grams, uncovered.
The consignment was transported from Nagaland and was en route to be delivered in Guwahati.
