Guwahati, May 15: In a swift and calibrated operation based on specific intelligence inputs, an Assam Rifles unit under the aegis of Spear Corps launched a counter-insurgency operation near New Samtal village in Khengjoy Tehsil of Chandel District, close to the Indo-Myanmar border.
The action commenced early on Tuesday, 14 May, after reports of movement by armed insurgent cadres in the border region. According to official sources, the troops came under fire shortly after entering the area but responded immediately with tactical redeployment and precision retaliation.

Ten suspected insurgents were neutralized in the firefight. Security forces have recovered sizeable cache of arms and ammunition from the site.
Further details are expected as the operation is in progress.
