Imphal, July 21: Over 3000 Kuki women on Friday staged sit-in-protest in Manipur’s Moreh against gross human rights violation upon Kuki people by Meitei community.
The sit-in-protest programme was organised by Kuki Women Union and Human Rights, Moreh.
The protesters held placards which read “Kuki women molested & raped at free will by Meitei”, “hang the culprits”, “We can’t live with rapist government”.
“Today, we organised the sit-in-demonstration programme against the inhuman and barbaric incident where two women were gang raped and paraded naked. We strongly condemn the incident and urge the government to take strong action against the culprits,” said a woman protester.
She further said, “Its a gross human rights violation upon Kuki women, children. Justice should be served to the rape victims. We urge to take immediate action against the accused.”
The protesters demanded capital punishments to the mob who were involved in the incident and appealed to national and international bodies to intervene to bring justice.
